Bypass to be opened soon
As most people now know we have encountered construction problems with this new bypass. Work has been continuing since the originally planned opening last December to both identify and rectify the problem.
The Agency issued the following statement on Friday 6 August:
Repair work to the damaged carriageways has continued since May on the A10 Wadesmill, Collier's End and High Cross bypass. In order to prove that the remainder of the carriageway is acceptable, an extensive testing regime has been carried out.
As a result of this testing, and to reduce the risk of further defects, 35 per cent of the carriageway is being replaced to its full depth. A section of reinforced earth embankment is also being partially replaced.
As more of the road is being repaired, the work will now take longer than originally expected. The contractor anticipates that work is likely to finish in October. The date of completion and opening of the bypass will be confirmed as work progresses.
We had hoped that this scheme could be opened ahead of schedule to enable road users and residents to benefit from this much needed bypass. Unfortunately this has not proved possible. However, we are now nearing completion of the extensive remedial repairs. Once the completion date is known, and the bypass can be opened, we will let everyone know.
We thank you for your continued patience.
