NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport intends to make an Order on the A453 Trunk Road, between Kegworth and Clifton in the Counties of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire to allow major maintenance work on the bridges over the River Soar and the Long Eaton to Loughborough railway line at Ratcliffe on Soar.

The effect of the Order will be to -

    3. a 10 miles per hour speed restriction on the above length of A453 when signs indicating "convoy working" are being displayed;
  2. close the A453 from its roundabout junction with the M1 at Junction 24 to its roundabout junction with Hartness Road and Clifton Lane, known as Crusader Island, Clifton;
  3. prohibit any vehicle from overtaking on the length of A453 described at (a) i) above;
  4. prohibit any vehicle with an overall weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes to enter or proceed on the length of A453 described at (b) above;
  5. prohibit any vehicle with an overall width exceeding 3.25 metres to enter or proceed on the length of A453 described at (b) above;
  6. close the laybys adjacent to the northbound and southbound carriageways of the length of A453 described at (a) i) above; and
  7. prohibit any vehicle from entering or leaving the length of the A453 described at (b) above, at its junction with any local road including the access road to Redhill Marina at Ratcliffe on Soar.

Work is expected to start on Wednesday 1 June 2005 and last for approximately 23 weeks. During this period the A453 will be completely closed over six weekends between 20.00hrs Friday and 06.00hrs Monday. The Order will come into force on 27 May 2005.

Vehicles being used by the emergency services will be exempt from the speed restriction, closure, overtaking ban, weight and width restrictions, layby closures and side road restrictions, and vehicles being used in connection with the works will be exempt from the closure, weight and width restrictions, layby closures and side road restrictions.

Diversion routes will be well signed and access to premises will be maintained at all times.
