M53 Junction 1 Bidston Moss Viaduct Southbound Resurfacing

Starting from Monday 18th October 2004 until Christmas

Due to excessive rainfall over the summer months, the carriageway of the M53 at Bidston Moss Viaduct is deteriorating rapidly.

It has been decided to carry out major resurfacing and waterproofing work at this junction.

Starting Monday 18th October and continuing up to the Christmas period unless continuous wet weather delays the curing and adhesion of the materials.

To allow full access to the southbound carriageway a contra-flow system will be put in place on the northbound carriageway with a speed limit of 40 miles per hour and speed cameras to ensure the safety of the contractors and road users.

EXTRA CARE ON LOCAL ROADS IS NEEDED AT JUNCTION 1.

A lane in each direction is being maintained over the viaduct and the exits and approaches on the roundabout are being used to maintain a second lane, but delays can be expected, so motorists are asked to allow more time for their journeys or to take alternative routes where possible.

The Highways Agency apologises for any inconvenience during the execution of these vital road repairs.
