The prime objective of the A500 Stoke Pathfinder Project is to assist with the economic regeneration of City of Stoke-on-Trent by relieving congestion on the A500 at the busy Stoke Road and City Road Junctions.
The scheme will also improve facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and buses, reduce the risk of accidents, and seeks to enhance and protect the environment.

What will happen during construction?
The construction period will be 2 years. The contractor, Edmund Nuttall Ltd has initially set up his site office at New Caledonia Mills, Shelton New Road. The first works will be site clearance and fencing off works area. Traffic calming measures will be introduced in the Campbell Road area to reduce the risk of rat running.
Early construction activity will be focused on the two roundabouts at Stoke Road and City Road, this will involve the diversion of services (water, gas, electricity etc.) and watercourses (Trent and Mersey Canal, River Trent and Fowlea Brook).
This work will allow construction of the overbridges, which will replace the existing roundabouts, and carry local traffic over the new A500 underpasses that will be constructed later in the contract. Some of the main areas of activity are shown on the diagram below.
