A1(M) Junction 3 Roehyde Improvements

Public Information, November 2005

Improving Junction 3

The works will start on 14 November 2005 and are expected to be completed by Summer 2006. They are being carried out to cater for extra traffic generated by the development on Hatfield aerodrome and are funded by the developer.

Location of the works

The site of the works

The work involves:

  • Widening of the slip roads
  • An extra lane to be added to the north side of the roundabout
  • Installing extra traffic signals
  • Building new embankments
  • Bridge maintenance works

The extent of the scheme

The result of the work

The improvement works will improve traffic flows through the junction. Earth embankment construction is being used where possible to improve the appearance.

Traffic Management

A 50 mph speed limit will be in place on the A1(M) whilst the works are being carried out on the motorway. The hard shoulder will be used for traffic and lanes will be narrowed during part of the works period. There will also be a temporary 40 mph speed limit on the slip roads and 30 mph speed limit on the roundabout for motorists and road workers' safety.

The works will also involve occasional overnight slip road closures. This will ensure the works are completed in the shortest time possible and minimise disruption to the public. A fully sign posted diversion route will be in place during the closure period.

Avoiding Delays

As delays are expected during the works motorists should allow extra time for their journeys.

Before you start your journey you should contact the Highways Agency Automated Telephone Service 08700 660 115 or check our website at www.highways.gov.uk/trafficinfo for up to date travel bulletins.
