The Project Control Framework

This framework sets out how we, together with the Department for Transport, manage and deliver major road improvement projects.

Introduction

  1. This report outlines the results of traffic surveys carried out to monitor the effects of the recently opened A41 Aston Clinton Bypass. The 6.3km (3.9 mile) dual two lane bypass passes to the north of the Buckinghamshire village of Aston Clinton, and connects to the existing A41 carriageway, using the new roundabout, west of the village, and upgraded Tring Hill Roundabout in the east, as illustrated in Figure 1.1 below. The objectives of the scheme were to improve the environment, severance and accident record in and around Aston Clinton by removing through traffic from the village.
  2. The A41 Aston Clinton Bypass was officially opened on the 3rd October 2003. 'Before' and 'After' traffic data for the bypass was collected immediately prior to and after the opening date, in order to prepare a Traffic Impact Study (TIS) on the effects of the scheme opening. In order to monitor these effects, traffic data from Buckinghamshire County, Hertfordshire County and Highways Agency count sites has been used to evaluate the effects of the opening of the scheme on initial local traffic routeing patterns in the area.
  3. Chapter 2 of this report discusses the data collected as part of the TIS study. Chapters 3 and 4 summarise the main results and conclusions.
