The Project Control Framework

This framework sets out how we, together with the Department for Transport, manage and deliver major road improvement projects.

Conclusion

  1. The traffic data collected as part of this Traffic Impact Study demonstrates that the new A41 Aston Clinton Bypass, which opened on the 3rd October 2003, carries around 18,100 vehicles per day (vpd) on an average weekday. Traffic count data, post scheme opening in October, shows traffic volumes on the old A41 through the village, of less than 10,000 vpd, clearly indicating that the scheme has been successful in removing vehicles (65%) away from the village.
  2. The traffic counts indicate that there are reductions in traffic volumes on the B4544 through Weston Turville and B4009 through Wendover as traffic stays on the A41 to access Aylesbury.
  3. The introduction of new road classifications and associated signage has been implemented to maximise vehicle transfer onto the most appropriate routing, thus having a possible effect on vehicle numbers and re-routing.
  4. The Journey Time Surveys suggest that the new bypass results in significant time savings of up to 9 minutes compared to the old A41 route through the village.
  5. The One-Year 'After' Study for this scheme's Post Opening Project Evaluation will be undertaken in October 2004, and will consider accident reductions in the first year after opening, as well as traffic volume and Journey Time changes.
