The Project
Maintenance work on the M3 Junction 3 Lightwater Interchange is complete it started on 9 October 2006 and was completed by Christmas 2006.
This was the final phase and consisted of repairing the two inner parapets of the interchange.
Traffic Management
The work took place behind vertical concrete barriers which were installed to ensure the safety of the workforce.
Work was carried out overnight, between the hours of 9.00pm – 5.00am Monday to Saturday, due to the daytime traffic levels at this busy interchange. Only one lane was in operation during the work period. To minimise the impact of the works on the public we specifically designed to keep all lanes open during peak times.
Lane closures took place during off peak daytime hours for material deliveries and removal of spoil. Any delays in traffic, or increase in noise during the works were minimal.
The West Bridge footpath was closed for the duration of the work. A signed footpath diversion was in place with all pedestrians being diverted via East Bridge footpath.
