There is a delay to the completion of the £1.32 million safety improvement scheme to install new traffic signals on the A14 Spittals Interchange (J23) near Huntingdon.
The contractor will be maintaining the daytime traffic management left in place over the Christmas/New Year break i.e. nearside lane closures on A14 eastbound approach (from J22) and on both bridges to complete the remaining work, including resurfacing of the northbound entry slip road (from Spittals towards Alconbury). The A14 northbound entry slip will remain closed until 22 January except when other works may be taking place on the A14. There will be occasional lane closures affecting other parts of the Interchange.
On Sunday 22 January the northbound entry slip road will reopen and all other restrictions will be removed when the new traffic signals will come into use. This will mark the last phase of the work.
In the meantime, all overnight working will normally be between the hours of 2000hrs and 0600hrs. However, overnight on 10/11 January, the contractor will be closing Junction 22 (Huntingdon Racecourse) Eastbound exit slip and Westbound entry slip between the hours of 21.00 hrs and 05.00 hrs. This is to allow for the installation of traffic counter loops. The diversion route will be via the Spittals interchange.
The new traffic signals will improve safety and enable better traffic control on the junction. The signals will be closely monitored and tested once activated on Sunday and validated during the week to ensure that the computer-controlled system (MOVA) is working efficiently and effectively.
As the majority of the remaining work will be taking place at night, drivers should not, for the most part, experience additional delay but are advised to take particular care when proceeding through roadworks.
