The Project

Work began on Thursday 16 November 2006 to replace the last remaining section of concrete carriageway on the A1 between Coddington and Balderton, near Newark, Nottinghamshire and was completed on the 17 March 2007.

The works involved both carriageways of the A1 being reconstructed and resurfaced along with drainage, safety barriers, signing and lining improvements.

New signs were also erected to encourage pedestrians to use the bridges instead of attempting to cross the A1 on foot. Safety barriers will also installed to the bridges which carry the A1 over the East Coast rail line.

The concrete carriageways were replaced with low noise surfacing to give road users a smoother journey and in addition the new surface will improve the quality of life for nearby residents by reducing noise levels and the risk of localised flooding.

These essential works will result in a quieter, smoother road surface and increase safety which will be beneficial to the travelling public.
