Introduction
The Highways Agency is responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and improvement of all the trunk roads in England, including the A1. A draft strategy has been developed for the management of the A1 between London and Peterborough over the next 10 years. It has been prepared following a detailed study of the route, which included consultation with interested parties, including local authorities, environment groups, the police and users of the route itself. The strategy will also form an input to multi-modal studies being undertaken in the same area. This pamphlet outlines the draft Route Management Strategy proposed for the A1 and invites the views of the general public prior to adoption of the Strategy.
