The Project

A major scheme to resurface 3 miles of the A43 between Tiffield and the Abthorpe Road Roundabout at Towcester, which started on Friday 20 January 2006 and is expected to be completed by Sunday 19 March 2006.

The existing concrete carriageway has come to the end of its useful working life and both carriageways will be resurfaced with a new low noise surfacing material.

Traffic Management

The work will be carried out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with contraflows and diversions.

A mandatory 40mph or 50mph speed limit as indicated will be in force through the works at all times.

  • There will be occasional overnight closures of the A43 with traffic diverted through Towcester.
  • There will be occasional gap closures at Tiffield and Hulcote with diversions.
  • Access to and from Old Tiffield Road, Northampton Road and Showsley Road will not be possible at times.

These works have been planned to be carried out in the shortest practicable time and designed to keep disruption to a minimum. However, they are expected to cause serious delays at times and motorists should allow extra time for their journeys or seek alternative routes wherever possible.

If you break down in the works, turn your hazard lights on and stay with your vehicle. Recovery vehicles will be standing by to tow you clear of the works free of charge.
