The Project
A 2 mile - 3 km stretch of carriageway between the M50 Junction 1 and M5 Junction 8 has been resurfaced. This included the roundabout at Junction 8 of the M5.
The resurfacing scheme, started on 21st January 2006, for a duration of 20 weeks, provided the opportunity to replace the safety barriers and to widen the hard shoulders enhancing safety for drivers involved in emergencies and unscheduled stops. Improvements were also made to the embankment and drainage systems.
The Highways Agency used low noise surfacing on this scheme.
This project was procured via the Construction Management Framework. Find out more about this type of procurement.
Benefits
Now the works are completed, the main benefits are:
- Restoration of the carriageway to a high standard.
- Upgraded safety barriers and wider hard shoulders.
- Reduced maintenance works in future years.
