The Red Route was considered the best choice by 91% of those who responded to the consultation, whilst the Blue Route received just over 3% and the Purple Route 4.5%.
In view of the comments received, the Red Route was chosen by Ministers as the preferred route because:
- It received overwhelming support from the public.
- It was supported by the County and Borough Councils.
- The road would be moved away from residential areas providing significant environmental benefits.
- Disruption to traffic during construction would be reduced compared with the other options.
