The Project Control Framework

This framework sets out how we, together with the Department for Transport, manage and deliver major road improvement projects.

Description of the Preferred Route

Description of the Preferred Route

The proposed scheme would involve constructing a new off-line section of the A2 between the Pepperhill and Marling Cross junctions. It would be built close to the line of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, currently under construction, creating a combined transport corridor in this area. The new route would be up to 220m further away from the main residential areas than the existing A2, which would be broken up and landscaped, with footpaths and cycleways created in its place. New junction layouts would be provided at the Tollgate and Marling Cross Junctions. Between the Marling Cross and Cobham junctions the widening would be built on the line of the existing A2 in order to avoid any direct impact on the Shorne and Ashenbank Woods Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The total length of the proposed scheme is approximately 6½ km (4 miles). Lower noise surfacing would be used throughout and noise barriers would be installed at sensitive locations.
