The Project Control Framework
This framework sets out how we, together with the Department for Transport, manage and deliver major road improvement projects.
Environmental Issues
The proposed route would provide significant reductions in noise levels for many residents living close to the existing A2. Gravesham Borough Council have recently declared the A2 corridor as an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) due to forecast exceedences of the National Air Quality Strategy objectives for nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter. The proposed route would significantly reduce the extent of the AQMA by moving traffic away from a large proportion of the built up area.
Most of the proposed scheme passes through an area with high archaeological potential, particularly from the prehistoric and Roman periods. This potential has been demonstrated by the excavations carried out for the adjacent Channel Tunnel Rail Link. A detailed archaeological investigation will be carried out, in consultation with English Heritage, which may result in excavations taking place to provide more information on sites of particular interest.
