Construction Progress

Construction

Works planned for the period January  to March 2010 include:

General Site Activities
  • The bulk of the archaeology activity is complete however archaeologists will remain on site during construction works to investigate in the event of further interesting findings.
  • Site clearance continues.
  • Drainage works will continue.
  • Utility diversions will continue.
  • Public Rights of Way - All rights of way which cross the scheme are all formally closed and can officially remain closed until completion of the works. However as soon as it is safe to do so we will endeavour to open up as many of the routes as possible on their new allignments.
Widmerpool to Bingham Railway - South Section
  • Roehoe Junction - One half of the bridge was erected just before Christmas. The remaining beams will be placed towards the end of 2010 once the traffic has been moved onto the northbound carriageway.
  • Owthorpe Junction - Bridgeworks will be ongoing. A temporary diversion of the A46 on the north-east side of the junction is in progress and will be in operation from February 2010. Once the traffic has been moved,  the bridge beams will be erected.
  • Stragglethorpe Junction - The temporary diversion of the A46, using what will be the north bound off-slip,  will be complete and operational from April 2010.
  • A52 Saxondale - Excavation of the new junction here is substantially complete and bridge works have now started.
  • Bingham Railway Bridge - Site clearance of the area around the railway bridge has been undertaken. The bridge will be slid into position during a rail possession (closure of the line) during Christmas 2010.
Bingham Railway to Newark - North Section
  • Margidunum bridge works are on-going with the beams due for installing January/February 2010.
  • Butt Lane bridge works will commence in April 2010.
  • Car Colston bridge works will commence in March 2010.
  • Red Lodge Junction beams are now in place.
  • Coneygrey Spinney new access road should be open in spring  2010. The safety of the junction of Longhedge Lane with the A46 will be fully assessed before it is opened to traffic.
  • Flintham Junction - Once the new access for Coneygrey Spinney is open, works on the main junction and main carriageway earthworks will commence. This is a complex area of the project aand will take until late 2011 to complete.
  • Syerston Bridge - The beams for the bridge were lifted into place before Christmas. Works will be on-going with the target of opening the bridge to traffic in summer 2010.
  • Lodge Lane junction bridge works will commence in January 2010.
  • Moor Lane closed on the 5 October 2009 and is scheduled to remain closed until November 2010. Bridge works have commenced.
  • Elston Lane is now permanently closed.
  • Elston Lane to Millfield Lane -  The weather in the later months of 2009 has resulted in a revision to the surfacing programme. Tarmac will now be laid between the Elston and Millfield Lanes before the end of March.
  • Thorpe Lane to Hawton Lane link road works have been delayed due to wet weather. Likely start is now spring 2010.
  • Hawton Lane bridge preparation works are complete with main works due to commence in Jnauary 2010.
  • Farndon Roundabout. Phase 1 of construction will commence in late January. This phase should not affect the existing traffic flows.

Measures have been put in place to keep the disruption to a minimum.

  • As much work as possible to be carried out during the day using well maintained, modern equipment to minimise dust and noise
  • Consultation has been carried out with Environmental Health Officers to agree working hours and permitted noise
  • The diversions to be put in place have been agreed with local authorities and the police and will be clearly signed
  • The site office for the scheme is located directly off the A46 at RAF Newton, this should mean our presence has minimum impact on our neighbours
