The Project
What's being done?
We have completed resurfacing a two-mile section of the M42 northbound carriageway between junction 10 (Tamworth) and junction 11 (Appleby Magna) to provide a new quieter, safer surface. This included new road markings and studs as well as other maintenance work to minimise future disruption.
How long will it take?
Work started on Monday 13 February 2006 and was completed on 31 March 2006. Work was carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week to complete the project quickly and minimise disruption to road users.
Traffic Management
How will this affect the traffic?
We kept two lanes open in both directions running in contra flow during peak hours. Overnight one lane was kept open northbound. Both lanes were still open southbound.
For safety, a 40mph speed limit was in place on both carriageways during the work, enforced by safety cameras.
Is there an alternative route?
The northbound exit slip road at junction 11 was closed overnight and diverted traffic continued northbound on to the A42 to junction 12 (B5006 Willesley Park Interchange) to return southbound to exit at junction 11.
Note: During this work we suspended the HGV lane restriction trial which started in October 2005.
