The Project
Work to improve the M4 Junction 4, which forms the main access from the M4 to Heathrow Airport, began in March 2006. Work on the main carriageway and slip roads will be completed prior to Christmas 2006. The roundabout works will be completed by early February 2007. The improved junction will give better access to Heathrow Airport and the Stockley Park Development Area and improve traffic flow for regular users.
Work will be carried out overnight between 9 pm and 5:30 am. During the work a 24 hour 30 mph speed restriction will be in place on the exit and entry slip roads and a 50 mph limit on the main M4 carriageway. This is for the safety of drivers and road workers on site during the construction phase.
The work includes:
- the alteration and improvement of:
- the existing carriageway
- signing and lighting
- the construction of additional carriageway areas
- the construction of 2 signs gantries
- provision of CCTV coverage
- new road markings and signings
