Second Stage Consultation - Final Report

1 Introduction

1.1 Overview

Following a review of the Trunk Road Programme, the Government proposed a series of studies to address problems on a number of trunk roads. One of the issues identified for detailed study was the congestion and road safety problems experienced on the A38 in Derby at its junctions with the:

  • A5111 (Kingsway roundabout)
  • A52 (Markeaton roundabout)
  • A61 (Abbey Hill)

Consultation forms a key part of this study so that views and opinions from the local community and organisations may be canvassed and fed into the study. This not only assists the problem identification stage but also gathers suggestions and opinions on possible improvements. The following have been used to inform and consult throughout the study:

  • Web site;
  • Telephone hotline;
  • Press articles;
  • Newsletters;
  • Questionnaires;
  • Wider Reference Group;
  • Public meetings; and
  • Public exhibitions

The First Stage Consultation Report demonstrates the findings of the problem identification stage gathering suggestions for improvements to the identified problems. This Second Stage Consultation Report covers the next step of the consultation process, gathering opinions on the more detailed improvements presented for comment.

1.2 Objectives

The objectives of the consultation process are as follows:

  • To enable the public to assist in the identification of problems and possible solutions;
  • to accurately inform the public of study progress and its findings; and
  • to enable the public to appraise the likely solutions.

The First Consultation Report covers the first two bullet points with this report catering for the latter two.

1.3 Layout

Following this Introduction, Section 2 identifies each of the consultation exercises conducted for the option appraisal stage of this study. Sections 3 to 7 report the findings of the various consultations with an overview in Section 8.
