The Project
Work to extending the central reserve safety barrier by 150m, up to the crossing point into Elkesley Village started on Saturday 1 April 2006 and is expected to be complete by 9 April 2006. This will improve safety, particular by reducing the chances of a cross-over accident.
The location of the work is Elkesley, North of Nottinghamshire - 7 miles South East of Worksop, 3 miles South of Retford, 15 miles North of West of Newark.
This will be one of a series of schemes over the coming months which will extend the amount of central reserve barrier on the A1. The length of the road affected will be 150m from the crossing point at Elkesloey Southbound.
Both Northbound and Southbound traffic on the A1, will be affected by the closure of Lane 2 in each direction.
The right hand turn for Southbound traffic into Elkesley (crossing over the Northbound A1) may have to be closed temporarily during the second weekend.
Traffic Management
The Hours of working are 0700 to 1700. There will be a 40mph speed limit in force between the weekends, as the barrier will be incomplete and signs advising this will be in place.
Lane two closures on the Northbound and Southbound carriageways.
There will be a possible closure of the right turn into Elkesley from the Southbound on the A1.
Diversions
If the Elkesley crossing point is closed, traffic will continue Southbound to the next junction (B63387 - Twyford Bridge/Dover Bottom) and turn around, accessing Elkesley from the Northbound carraigeway of the A1.
Please drive carefully through our roadworks.
