Main Plans for A456 Manor Way Halesowen
Grange Road Island
The Junction will be realigned to a more centralised position, with the central island itself enlarged and built up to provide a physical barrier to approaching motorists. New directional lane marking will be introduced on approach and on the roundabout carriageways to allow ease of use of the roundabout. Street lighting will be improved and high friction surfacing will be introduced on approach and around the roundabout. The design and construction work will now be taken forward by Dudley MBC (see the detrunking section below).
Speed Limit Review
The various speed limits along the whole A456 (Kidderminster-M5 J3) have been reviewed to provide less variance and more appropriate speed limits. These have been agreed in principle with the Police, as they would be responsible for enforcing the speed limits. General trend shows a 10 mph speed reduction however this is not the case for all sections. Implementation will be the responsibility of the new Highway Aurthority.
Speed Signs
Permanent speed signs have been erected at the junction of Lutley Lane to replace the temporary signs that have been trialed within the area. The crossing point at this location has also be improved to provide a safer place to cross for pedestrians.
Detrunking
The road is has detrunked, which means that the proposed Grange Road Island works is unlikely to go ahead. As part of the detrunking process any funding approved for the scheme will be provided to Dudley Council. The reason behind the decision to detrunk is that it is felt that the route serves local and regional traffic rather than being a strategic route. Detrunking will allow the local authority to manage the route and integrate it within their local transport plans.
