How does the work affect me?
For the duration of the works, the Highways Agency will use a series of traffic management systems to reduce the effect of its road works in the area.
To ensure the health and safety of the public and the workforce, three way temporary traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the duration of the works. These traffic signals will be manually operated during and between peak flows between the hours of 07.00 and 19.00, seven days a week. There will also be queue monitors on the approaches.
During the works the B2087 will be closed for 10 weeks with all traffic diverted via the B2099. In addition it will be necessary to close the A268 for one 3 day weekend, with traffic diverted along the A229.
A 30mph speed restriction will be in operation during the construction period and when necessary a 10mph speed restriction with an escort vehicle will be implemented when additional workforce safety is required. This will be necessary the resurfacing works to ensure the safety of the public and the workforce.
Works will be carried out between the hours of 07.30 and 19.00 Monday to Saturday, and on permitted Sundays from 08.00 until 17.00.
Vehicles will be prohibited from parking within the road closure barriers. At times, the existing pedestrian crossing will be closed and a temporary crossing, opposite Inland Travel and to the north on the A21 will be provided
When will the 3-day weekend closure take place?
To enable the resurfacing of the centre of the junction, it will be necessary to close the A268 junction with the A21 for 3 days. At present this closure has been scheduled to take place on Saturday 1 July - Monday 3 July.
Will the buses be affected?
Due to the closure of the B2087 for 10 weeks, during the road works, the Highways Agency has employed Hams Travel to provide a shuttle bus to connect with the regular bus service and school bus that normally serve the A268 and B2087.
What will the diversion routes be?
All diversions during the works will be clearly signed. Traffic for the B2087 will be diverted via the A21 and B2099.
During the 3-day closure of the A268, traffic wishing to access the A268 will be directed onto the A229 to Hawkhurst to join the A268.
Are there any factors that will prevent the works being finished on time?
Everything will be done to ensure the works are finished on time, however all works undertaken by the Highways Agency are weather dependent. In addition, should unexpected ground conditions be uncovered on removal of the existing road surface, there may be an adverse effect on the programme.
Why aren't you working every Sunday?
Working hours are in line with the European Working Time Directive.
Why are the works taking place at this time?
To ensure the works take place after the winter period when weather conditions are likely to delay works and outside of school summer holidays.
Will work take place over the Bank Holiday weekends?
During the two Bank Holiday weekends, the Traffic Management will remain in place to protect the public from the work area.
The road closure for the B2087 will also remain in operation during both weekends.
What about deliveries to my business?
The Highways Agency will work with commercial businesses affected by the closures to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Will the emergency services have access through the closure?
Access for the emergency services will be maintained at all times.

It is recommended that road users traveling through this area allow extra time for their journeys or seek alternative routes.
