A19/A184 Testos Traffic Signal renewal
Maintenance Scheme
Part of our ongoing programme of work to maintain England's strategic road network
What is happening?
The current traffic lights on the A19 Testos roundabout will be replaced. There will also be a small amount of work to bring the pedestrian crossings up to current standards.
When and where is this happening?
The work started on 26 November 2012 and will continue until the end of February 2013. The Testos roundabout is the point at which the A19 meets the A184 close to the village of West Boldon.
Why is this happening and what will it cost?
The current traffic signals are aging and failures over the last two years have caused congestion. We estimate the cost to be in the region of £600K.
How will the scheme be carried out?
We will remove the traffic lights, cables, traffic detection equipment and controller unit, and replace them with new equipment.
What are the benefits?
The installation of new modern equipment should prevent faults and allow the equipment at this junction to run safely and reliably and therefore reduce delays.
How do I find out more information?
More information will be posted on this project page as it becomes available. You can subscribe to be alerted when updates are made.
If you have any queries about this project you should contact the Highways Agency Information Line by emailing ha_info@highways.gsi.gov.uk or calling 0300 123 5000.
On this page you will find out more information about the impact this project will have on your journey. This includes details of any roadworks and how we will manage traffic through the project.
Will there be roadworks?
Roadworks will be in place, however we will be working overnight and therefore expect the delays to traffic as a result of this scheme to be minimal.
We have designed the works to keep the traffic lights operational for the majority of the scheme, however we will have to turn lights off for short periods while we switch from the old equipment to new equipment.
How will you manage traffic?
We will close lanes on the roundabout and approaches to allow the work to be done safety.
Will there be diversions?
There will be no diversions.
Please note that this information is not updated in real time. Please check Traffic England for the latest information and current traffic conditions.
