Where was the project located?

The project was located on two sections of the M1: the first is between junction 38 and junction 39; the other is junction 39 to Calder Bridge.

Why was the scheme needed?

The existing central reserve barrier was nearing the end of its life.

What work was carried out?

The works saw the replacement of the existing steel central reserve safety barrier with concrete safety barriers. The scheme began on 22 January 2013 and was completed on 3 March 2013, two and a half weeks ahead of schedule.

How did this benefit road users?

The scheme will provide improved safety for road users and reduce delays due to maintenance.
