The Highways Agency has developed policies and a technical interface that will allow stakeholders to view traffic cameras in a format suitable for their needs. Due to limited telecommunications resources, the Highways Agency intends to connect different types of third party users to its cameras over a period of time.
Images will firstly be given to third party users that will make images available to the public. In the interim as a travel industry organisation you may be eligible for a connection to the Highways Agency HANET service. www.hanet.org.uk
The service will be provided using the technical and policy systems of the Video Information Highway (VIH). It is designed to provide access to images for wide variety of users both in the travel information industry and stakeholders in the business of managing the network. The system provides for priorities to be attached to:
- Delivery of images
- Positioning of cameras to pre-set locations
- Limited joy-stick control of cameras
If highways Agency stakeholders would like to receive information on progress with making traffic camera images available please complete the registration form.
