Licence Application Process
Images are made available in real-time either as still images with a regular refresh rate or as live video images. For further information on the quality of images and to view sample traffic camera images please visit Services Available and Sample Images page.
The images are Crown Copyright protected and may only be re-used under Licence with the permission of the Highways Agency acting on behalf of the Secretary of State under delegated licensing authority from the Controller of Her Majesty's Stationary Office. The offer of a Licence is subject to Standard Terms and Conditions.
- Application must be submitted via this website using the application forms on this website. Applications submitted in any other form or by any other means will not be considered.
- There are separate application forms for a Licence to re-use still images and live video images. Complete both forms if you wish to re-use both qualities of image.
- You will receive a confirmation email when you submit your application form(s).
- We shall contact you with a Formal Proposal Pack with a list of questions we would like you to answer and details relating to how a connection to our images can be made. The details provided in your formal proposal will be treated as Commercial in Confidence.
- You will be informed within twenty working days of receipt of your fully completed application for a Licence whether your application has been successful and whether you will be offered a Licence . The twenty working days may be extended in cases where the application raises complex issues (see Frequently Asked Questions). In this event you will be notified in writing of the reasons for the delay and be sent an estimated date by which we shall respond to your application.
- The number of image feeds is limited. Being offered a connection and a Licence to re-use the images will depend on: the availability of image feeds at the time of the application; the purpose for which the images will be used; and your ability to comply with the Secretary of State's licensing requirements as set out in the Licensing Standard Terms and Conditions page. Applicants who have satisfied all the requirements will be connected on a "first come first served" basis.
- Organisations that submit applications via this website but are not offered a Licence will be informed of the reasons. If you are not happy with the way in which your Licence application has been handled you may make a complaint using the "Image Licensing Complaints Procedure".
- If we are unable to offer you a Licence to re-use the images because we do not have the telecommunications resources to do so at that time, we will endeavor to keep you informed of further developments. We will keep your details on file so that we can contact you if required.
